Parkland Girls’ Varsity Volleyball
October 2, 2020
Girls Volleyball is kicking off their new season with the hopes of another successful year. Their last season’s record was 11-5 making the Parkland School DIstrict proud.
The girls will be playing their first game on Friday September 25th against Allentown Central Catholic away at 5:30.
Senior Team captain Jackie Malitzki said, “We work hard in practice trying our best to prepare for games and anticipating what we’re going to see on the other side of the net. But we are always ready for anything. Due to COVID, there is no handshaking or anything like that and the number of attendees are limited.”
Another one of the team captains, senior Leah Brunnabend said, “We are preparing differently than last year, we are running different rotations and moving a lot of people around but I think all of the girls are being very adaptable to all of the changes. Pre-season also looked different for us this year since we could not start workouts until July. We have had to split up our teams so there was only a certain amount of girls in the gym, for other teams that could throw off the team camaraderie but I think with us the upperclassmen have still been trying to include everyone as much as possible. We are fairly high ranked in the state and in the country so I look forward to really pushing together as a team to earn the ranking we have right now and hopefully make it to postseason!”
Attending the games will not be an option for anyone outside the families of the players. Each player was given a limited amount of tickets for home games and away games for their family members. With all the new rules and regulations any sports participating in new seasons will face different challenges, but with hope for a successful season our girls volleyball team will start off their season with the hope of some big wins.
The girls next games for October are:
October 2nd away at Whitehall
October 6th away at William Allen
October 13th away at Dieruff
October 15th home against Dieruff
October 19th home against Emmaus
October 21st away at Emmaus.
