Parkland High School Swimming Districts

With districts wrapping up on Saturday, March 6th, it is important to understand the work and sacrifice our swim team has made to prepare and succeed. Devon Corvaia, a senior on the team, explains ¨We bring our training down from about 6500 yards a day to about 2800 yards a day.¨ Letting the body rest before a major competition while still getting adequate practice is extremely important. They also stop lifting as heavy during the middle of the season to prepare for districts. The team practices every day of the week except Sunday; a hard-working and necessary schedule.

Districts this year were distinctly different than years prior due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Devon further explains ¨We were all staged in the auxiliary gym and there were no spectators allowed.¨ The meet size compared to previous years also dropped significantly, from 32 qualifiers to only 16. Competitions were held as races and points were given to places 1-8. Overall, despite the different year, to say the least, the Parkland Swim Team did not fail to impress and succeed at the weekend of districts.
