Don’t Let This Show Slip Through Your Fingers

After three months of intense preparation, Parkland High School’s talented cast members are eagerly anticipating the opening show of Mamma Mia. The cast features a diverse array of ages and talent, featuring more underclassmen in leading roles in comparison to previous spring musicals in recent Parkland history. Two freshmen exemplify this feat: Vasilis Motsenigos and Agidio Poloni, playing Sophie Sheridan’s fiancee, Sky, and Harry Bright, respectively.

The show features classic songs by the famous band, ABBA, such as “Dancing Queen,” “Voulez-Vous,” and “Super Trouper.” Junior Emily Bachl, portraying the leading role of Donna Sheridan, brings her powerhouse vocals and incredible acting to the table, absolutely doing ABBA’s songs justice.

Senior Brenna Pelizzoni, playing bride-to-be Sophie Sheridan, brings out Sophie’s quirkiness and will bring a smile to your face each time she is on stage. Pelizzoni is also a member of Parkland’s renowned chorale, and her dedication to vocal performance is evident in her portrayal of ABBA’s songs. Parkland’s stage welcomes back seniors Marcus Shin, playing the leading male role of Sam Carmichael, and Jared Sussman, playing the hilarious Bill Austin. Both Shin and Sussman have extensive experience in performing, with Sussman recently securing the title of Mr. Parkland at Parkland’s popular talent competition in February.

Aside from the insane levels of talent exuding from the cast, the most impressive factor of this show is the amount of time between preliminary auditions and opening night. After only three months of rehearsing, Mr. Anonia, the cast, crew, and pit teams have developed a truly incredible show.

Senior and stage manager Andrew Weiss discusses his feelings about opening night, “We’re ready to go; it’s been a long time,” in reference to how long it has been since Parkland has put on a live spring musical. He tells audience members to look out for “Emily’s quick change during the wedding.”
