When picking courses for the 2024-2025 school year, students were greeted with two new course offerings. These courses were Law Enforcement and Society and Criminal Evidence and Court Procedures. These courses are meant to give students education in the career field of criminal justice. The classes are only available for juniors and seniors and are dual enrollment courses that will meet twice a week.
Law Enforcement and Society will be a course dedicated to educating students on the role of law enforcement groups in society. The course teaches methods of understanding and solving community issues when assuming a position in law enforcement and skills for coping with crisis situations. This course is a great opportunity for students who are interested in entering the field of law enforcement while learning the knowledge and skills necessary for their career.
The second course that is new to the selection is Criminal Evidence and Court Procedure. This course will be focused on education in criminal justice and the justice system of the United States. The course will have students learn the historical content and practices of criminal justice and what procedures and components of a criminal court take place. This course is great for students who want to enter a career in law.
Both courses are associated with Project Lead the Way and are the perfect pathway for students who wish to pursue a career in law or criminal justice as well as those who plan to work for law enforcement. The addition of these courses is an exciting new opportunity for students at Parkland High School for the 2024-2025 school year as well as for future students to come.
