It has been a huge year for new albums, songs, and artists. From Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department”, to Charli XCX’s “Brat”, to new artist Chappell Roan’s “The Rise and Fall of A Midwest Princess”, Sabrina Carpenter has deemed herself one of the most successful artists of the year with 3 top hits, and her sixth album, “Short n’ Sweet”.
After a summer full of “Espresso” and “Please Please Please”, Sabrina Carpenter released one of the most anticipated albums of the year, “Short n’ Sweet”. “Short n’ Sweet” was Carpenter’s first album to debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200, and it was also her first album to even reach the top 20. “Short n’ Sweet” was the third-largest debut album of 2024, and all 12 tracks made it to the Hot 100. Carpenter’s fifth album, “Emails I Can’t Send” was also a successful release. Emails I Can’t Send debuted at number 23 on the US Billboard. This album was when most people discovered her music, with “Feather”,”Nonsense”, and “Because I Liked a Boy” becoming top hits.
Sabrina Carpenter hasn’t always been the pop star she is now. Her career began when she starred in the Disney TV show “Girl Meets World” in 2014. When she was younger, she also starred in “Tall Girl” and “Adventures in Babysitting”. She began her music career in 2014, when she released her debut single, “Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying” along with her debut album, “Eyes Wide Open”. Sabrina didn’t immediately take off in her music career. She released three other albums before she finally blew up. Her second album, “EVOLution” held her first ever hit song, “Thumbs”. Followed by “EVOLution”, she released two short albums that were called “Singular Act 1” and “Singular Act 2.” They also held some of Sabrina’s most popular songs, such as “Sue Me”, “Paris”, and “Looking at Me.” Her entire career changed once she released “Emails I Can’t Send.” It was a slow start, but when she became a concert opener for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, she soared and became the pop sensation that everyone knows today.
All twelve songs from “Short n’ Sweet” charted on the Billboard Hot 100. The first track on “Short n’ Sweet”, called “Taste”, holds the number two spot on the Hot 100, followed by “Please Please Please” (which was Carpenter’s first Hot 100 leader in June), and “Espresso.” The fourteenth spot on the charts goes to “Bed Chem”, followed by “Good Graces.” “Sharpest Tool” is at 21, “Juno” is at 22, “Coincidence” is at 26, “Slim Pickins” is at 27, “Dumb & Poetic” is at 32, “Don’t Smile” is at 35, and “Lie to Girls” is at 41. Carpenter became the third-ever woman to chart at least three songs in the Hot 100’s top five concurrently.
Summer is officially over, but it is now safe to say that Sabrina Carpenter is one of the biggest pop stars of the season along with Charli XCX, Chappell Roan, and Taylor Swift. Carpenter has also proven herself as one of the most successful female singers of the generation with 85.4 million monthly listeners and a seventh place rank on Spotify.
