Over the past few weeks, authorities have been battling an outbreak of wildfires that have spread across the Northeast region of the U.S., mainly in New York and New Jersey. The fires were reported to have spread to areas in Pennsylvania as well. At the same time, wildfires had been spreading across regions on the other side of the country on the West coast. The fires in the Northeast region are believed to be a result of a heavy drought that has recently lingered in the New York and New Jersey area. The fires are continuing to rage and citizens are hoping they will be contained and extinguished soon.
While wildfires are a common issue in the West coast region, the fires in the East have created a struggle never seen before and have been exhausting fire departments for weeks. The fires had forced authorities to issue a warning of bushfires and droughts to the northeast as a way to keep citizens alert of possible fire hazards. A wildfire had sparked on Blue Mountain in Pennsylvania and had burned for multiple days, leaving hundreds of acres of land destroyed before it could be contained. The severity of the wildfires was unexpected in the region and has left many surprised by how much of the region has been affected.
As the fires are battled in the Northeast, the West coast has been battling fires of their own. Though the severity of the fires are similar, the situation is quite familiar for the West coast. Although fire departments are better prepared in the region, the fires are still creating a problem for citizens in the area. North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum has issued a request for a major disaster declaration as a way to rally relief efforts.
So far, the efforts to contain the fires have been effective but the alarming rate at which the fires are spreading continues. Citizens are holding on and withstanding the effects of the fires such as droughts and water shortages and hope everything will return to normal soon.
