Each year around November, the Lehigh Valley Zoo decorates nearly every inch of its property in fun and colorful lights all in the name of the holiday spirit. This annual tradition is beloved by people of all ages. As viewers walk around the gleaming wonderland of lights and music, one may see smiles and laughter from children playing together around the playground, a teenage couple taking pictures in the sparkling carriage, or an entire family standing by the fire waiting for some hot chocolate. Regardless of age or the people around, the Lehigh Valley Zoo lights are an incredible experience.
It all starts at the entrance. Right from the start lights are dancing and glowing all around and the best classic Christmas songs playing from every corner. It really does feel like a “Winter Wonderland”. When people walk into the world of color, all they can really say is “Wow”. With kids running all over the place and their parents chasing close behind them, laughter bouncing off every wall, friends laughing together about how they feel their hands, and a couple next to them holding each other’s hand to keep warm, one is reminded of what the holiday spirit feels like from the moment they walk into the zoo.
Contrary to what many people may believe, there is so much more to do than just walk laps around the zoo. Around halfway through the path of lights, there is a giant Christmas tree standing taller than ever and glowing beautifully. Around this tree, there’s a large fireplace with a Christmas Movie projected on a big screen, and food stands offering things like hot chocolate, popcorn, and things to make s’mores! There is another section of these gorgeous lights that is dedicated to the movie Frozen. There are blue and white lights around every tree, cutouts of the characters to take pictures with, and even a stage! What is that stage for? The stage is there for Anna and Elsa to sing together and take photos with people after. It is a magical place, especially for younger kids! Aside from Elsa and Anna, someone else commonly seen at the zoo taking pictures with people is none other than the Grinch! Even though the Grinch isn’t as whimsical and gorgeous as the Princess and the Queen, many kids and adults have a great time getting their picture taken with such an iconic character.
Even though people may assume the lights at the zoo are just for kids, there is room for everybody to have fun. It is an amazing place for family, a date, or even a night out with friends! No matter someone’s age or even if they celebrate Christmas, they should absolutely check out the Lights at the Lehigh Valley Zoo!
