The 82nd Golden Globe Awards took place at the Beverly Hilton on Sunday, January 5. It was hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, who became the first solo female host in the history of the awards. From surprising winners to heartfelt speeches from the world’s biggest actors, the awards drew about 9.3 million viewers. Among the winners were musical film Wicked, the Netflix film Emilia Pérez, and the movie Challengers.
This year, the ceremony was full of surprises. The highest grossing musical film in history, Wicked, lost the award of Best Motion Picture- Musical or Comedy to the film Emilia Pérez. This event has been sparking controversy online because many people believe that Wicked deserved the award more. Demi Moore made an emotional acceptance speech after winning her first ever award after over 45 years of acting and three career nominations. She won Best performance by a female actor in a motion picture for her leading role in a motion picture called The Substance. Some other big awards and their winners were Best Drama Motion Picture, with the winner The Brutalist, Cinematic and box office achievement with Wicked as the winner, Best original song with the song El Mal (From Emilia Pérez), Best television limited series, anthology series or motion picture made for television with Baby Reindeer as the winner. Best original score with Challengers as the winner, and Best Television Series with the show Shōgun as the winner.
New speculations are now surrounding Zendaya and Tom Holland’s relationship after she was seen with a large diamond ring on during the red carpet at the awards. Fans are beginning to think that Tom Holland finally proposed to her, and they are now engaged.
The Golden Globes set the pace for the rest of the award season, such as the Emmys for television, and The Academy Awards ,Oscars, for film.
