The 67th Grammy Awards took place on February 2nd, 2025, and they surprised people across the world. With unexpected winners and unforgettable performances, this year’s show has been one of the most memorable yet. The Grammys started around 3:30 PM with the pre-show, which was for the smaller award categories. Surprisingly, Olivia Rodrigo lost her only nomination of the year for Can’t Catch Me Now for the Best Song Written For Visual Media award to the song It Never Went Away From American Symphony) by Jon Batiste. Sabrina Carpenter won her first grammy after years in the industry at the pre-show for Best Pop Solo Performance. Charli XCX also won her first three grammys at the pre-show for her breakout album, BRAT.
After the pre-show, the red carpet started to fill up with stars, including Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish, and Chappell Roan. Fans also noticed that Taylor Swift’s outfit referenced her boyfriend ,Travis Kelce, in her outfit by adding a small chain with the letter “T” on it. Fans also believe that this was referencing the lyric “What if he’s written mine on my upper thigh” from her song Guilty as Sin?
The show’s first award, Best Rap Album, was given to Alligator Bites Never Heal by Doechii. This was the first grammy she has ever won, and she was the third woman to ever win an award in this category. The second award was Best Pop Vocal Album, and it went to Short n’ Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter. This was Carpenter’s second grammy of her career. Taylor Swift was the presenter for Best Country Album, and she gave it to Cowboy Carter by Beyonce. The Best New Artist award ,presented by Olivia Rodrigo, went to Chappell Roan, making it her first ever grammy. Roan then made a powerful speech that called on record labels to support developing artists with “a livable wage and health care.” At the end of the show, the Record of the Year and the Song of the Year awards were given to They Not Like Us by Kendrick Lamar. The final award, Album of the Year, was given to Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter, in which many people do not think this album deserved the award. In total, Beyonce has 35 Grammys, making her the most awarded artist in history.
As for performances, Billie Eilish was the first artist to perform. She sang her nominated song Birds of a Feather with her brother, Finneas. Sabrina Carpenter’s performance was both comical and iconic, as she sang her hit songs Espresso and Please Please Please while things were “going wrong” on stage. Chappell Roan had to have the best performance of the night by singing Pink Pony Club, which she said was her love letter to LA. She even got the entire arena to sing along with her. Benson Boone, Doechii, Khruangbin, RAYE, Shaboozey, and Teddy Swims also performed. The Weekend also made an appearance as a performer this year after hating on the Grammys in the past. Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga ,who premiered her music video for her new song Abracadabra in the middle of the show, performed the song California Dreamin’. Cynthia Erivo also performed the song Fly me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra. Charli XCX brought out many well known celebrities, such as Alex Consani, during her performance and ended the Grammys with a bang by singing her songs Von Dutch and Guess.
