At the beginning of May, many students have to face the thing their teachers have been preparing them for for the year: the AP Exam. Depending on how students perform on the exam, they can get college credit for certain classes.
The lead up to the AP Exam can be a nerve-wracking experience, especially as students try to recall everything they learned throughout the year. “They seem slightly intimidating as I do not remember all the material from the entire year, but I believe I will get more confidence as I continue studying, said Arib Islam (10), who is taking two AP exams this year. Islam has already begun studying for the exam.
However, people grow more comfortable with the AP Exams as they begin to take more. . “Through the years, AP exams have become less scary,” Sandy Lee (12) said. “The first year I took it I was really nervous about doing badly on the exam but now I’m more confident in what I’m doing.” Lee, who is taking two AP Exams, has not started studying for her exams yet.
If, like Lee, you have not started studying for the AP Exams yet, there are different methods you can do to learn the materials you need to learn for the test. “For almost all classes the most important thing is to do practice material,” Sophie Elijovich (12) said. “Oftentimes, your teachers will do this with you in class, but to really be ready for the exam, you need to do it out of class as well.”
If you do not know how to study for the AP exam, Elijovich has specific recommendations for you. “Review each unit and do practice multiple choice and FRQs for that unit,” said Elijovich, who while only taking one AP Exam this year, has taken several in the past. “Then, move on to the next unit and do the same. When you’ve reviewed the whole year’s material, do practice MC and FRQs for all of the material put together, just like on the real AP test.”
The studying materials mentioned by Elijovich are often available digitally, and are great resources to take advantage of when studying for the AP Exam.
