On March 28, 2025, famous singer-songwriter and member of the Grammy award winning band Boygenius, Lucy Dacus released her fourth studio album titled Forever Is a Feeling.
Dacus has been teasing the album since January 15 of this year when she appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform the album’s first hit single, “Ankles”. While Dacus released “Ankles” along with “Limerence”, a second single, listeners gave “Ankles” the spotlight treatment. Just a few days after the song was released, “Ankles” was voted the week’s best new music across all genres according to a poll conducted by Billboard. The song received over half of the poll’s votes, which displays how it captured the attention from the majority of listeners.
The next single, “Best Guess” was released on February 10, and themes of romance and a potential long-term relationship were once again prominent. Dacus’s fans’ anticipation of the album seemed to grow exponentially because of the continuation of love as the central idea. They yearned for further insight into Dacus’s relationships, which they would soon attain.
A rumor of Dacus’s romantic relationship with Julien Baker, former Boygenius band member, had been floating around for months, but both parties officially confirmed the validity of the rumor in interviews with The New Yorker and People in March. Phoebe Bridgers, the third and final member of Boygenius and well known artist, publicly expressed support for the relationship on social media.
The exposition of the relationship was perfectly timed; with the announcement going public on March 17, just under two weeks of the albums release on the 28th, put Forever Is a Feeling at the forefront of the music scene. The album contains thirteen tracks, including “Bullseye” featuring Hozier, a renowned alternative folk singer. Throughout the album, Dacus addressed her emotions regarding close friendships, and explores her understanding of her newfound relationship with Baker.
Siyona Pathak (10), a PHS student with a passion for music, claimed, “I saw Boygenius live and it was incredible then, but knowing now that those three women have such deep, interpersonal relationships makes their music so much more heartfelt and beautiful. Of course, I love all the songs about Julien Baker but Lucy’s relationship with Phoebe will always warm my heart, which is why my favorite song off of the album, ‘Modigliani’ is about their friendship.” Rose Billowitch (10), another student and fan of Dacus’s music, said, “My favorite song on the album is ‘Most Wanted Man’ because it’s extremely catchy, the electric guitar is very captivating, and the lyrics are very smart. Forever Is a Feeling has become my favorite Lucy Dacus album in a very short amount of time.”
