If you’ve ever been to the Allentown Municipal Golf Course, chances are you’ve seen a small restaurant called Jack’s Slice.
What might look like a small pizza joint is actually a restaurant that offers a wide variety of menu items including pierogies, quesadillas, cheesesteaks, baked pasta, and more. Luckily, I had the opportunity to try many of its items this past Sunday.
In total my party ordered the following items:
1 order of crab fries
1 slice of cheese pizza
1 cup of lobster bisque
1 small “gourmet white fiesta” pizza
1 order of cheese ravioli (with a side salad and garlic knots)
While we waited, we got to enjoy the beautiful views of the nearby golf course as we were seated outside. One can also choose to sit indoors and enjoy watching a game of football (college or NFL), however on weekends, it can definitely be pretty loud. The inside of the restaurant also features a bar, which does mean that many of the patrons are intoxicated and may be somewhat rowdy. If one wants a quieter dining experience they can eat in the nearby pavilion.

We got the side salad first and it was light and simple with a good crunch to it. The ingredients were fresh and the dish also included ranch on the side.

Next, we received the crab fries. They were very well seasoned and came with a large cup of warm and flavorful nacho cheese. The fries were crispy and a bit spicy as well.

After the appetizers I received my entrée of a slice of cheese pizza. The slice was large and thin. The pizza was very chewy and crispy with a bit of a charred taste that I enjoyed quite a bit. While some may not like the chewiness of the slice, I personally found it to be delectable.

I also received a cup of the lobster bisque. The soup was warm and comforting and very creamy. But, I found it to be a bit bland. If you are used to lobster bisque from New England, this one doesn’t quite meet the mark. However, I would still say it is a decent soup for the price.

These next two items weren’t mine but I did taste them. The baked ravioli itself was a bit hard to eat but was filled with ricotta cheese and came with a lot of tart marinara sauce. While each ravioli was filling, the dish only had five raviolis, which some may not consider to be good value (albeit it did come with a side salad and some garlic knots). The dish can also be messy, so it may not be good for young children.

Another menu item I tried a bit of was the “gourmet white fiesta” pizza. The pizza had a lot of rich cheese and leafy vegetables. It had a lot of complex flavors due to all the vegetables. While a lot of adults and teens may enjoy it I would not recommend it to younger kids and picky eaters. It’s also worth noting that for more complex pizzas like this, you cannot order them by the slice and must get at least a small.

The last item we received was strangely enough the garlic knots which were supposed to come with the ravioli. We have no idea if they forgot them or if they meant to bring them in last. Anyways, the garlic knots had a very strong garlic flavor when compared to some other garlic knots. They were good but nothing exceptional.

With that, we departed Jack’s Slice while watching the sun set over the golf course. We enjoyed a great variety of food and dined in a casual environment. While the restaurant occasionally has some bands play as live entertainment, the restaurant played hit songs from bands like Green Day and Nirvana on the radio while I was there.

In summary, Jack’s Slice is definitely a fun outing, whether you are going golfing or not, due to its comforting food and vibrant ambiance.
