“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married” is how international pop-star Taylor Swift announced her engagement to renowned football player Travis Kelce. On August 26, Swift went public with the long-awaited news that she was, in fact, getting married. Fans around the world have been waiting for this for years and years, and it has finally been confirmed.
The famous pair is shown in an Instagram post, posing in a beautiful garden with a flower arch and luscious plants surrounding them. The song in the background is Swift’s own “So High School” from her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, a cutesy love song describing the mutual butterflies and ‘opposites attract’ dynamic in their relationship. “I think they’re a good fit and I’m happy that they both found someone that’s good for them,” said Kennedy Perkins (11). While fans are overall happy about the engagement, Rose Billowitch (11) is afraid that this event will heavily influence Taylor Swift’s productions more than usual. “I am super happy for Taylor and Travis, and I hope he doesn’t affect her music,” she said.
Swift’s most recent relationship before Travis Kelce was a serious, long-term (around six years) relationship with actor Joe Alwyn. While they were together, fans thought they were endgame for sure, especially because of the songs on albums Reputation and Lover. Their breakup in April of 2023 was a major shock for the fandom, but it allowed Swift’s relationship with Kelce to come into fruition soon after in July of the same year. Kelce attended one of Swift’s concerts on the Eras tour, hoping to give her a friendship bracelet he had made for her, but was disappointed when he found out she does not meet fans after the show. Lucky for him, after he expressed interest, she reciprocated the feelings.
Now, Swift is often seen on screen at Kansas City Chiefs games to support Kelce, and Kelce attended many of Swift’s shows across the globe. Even though Kelce didn’t get a Super Bowl ring last year, he is getting a different kind of ring!
