In an age ruled by advanced technology and A.I, the concept of an old-fashioned jewelry heist may seem like the thing of the past- until October 19th, 2025, when four people broke into the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. These intruders, disguised as construction workers, broke into the Louvre’s Gallery of Apollo via a balcony through a vehicle-mounted mechanical lift. They used power tools to cut through the windows, and once inside the building, the thieves proceeded to steal eight pieces of 19th century jewelry pieces that originally belonged to French royalty. The thieves were later seen in CCTV footage leaving the premises on electric scooters.
The stolen jewelry pieces are said to have over a thousand diamonds and other precious gemstones , making the value of this theft immeasurable, not to mention the historical value of these items. Only one piece of jewelry escaped the thieves as Empress Eugénie’s crown was found damaged on the escape route. However, in spite of all of these details, 2 specific ones make this robbery truly unbelievable: The theft occurred in broad daylight at 9:30 AM, taking only 7 minutes- and the thieves managed to escape completely unnoticed.
The implausible nature of such a robbery being committed successfully has left the public, specifically on social media, in an outrage. In a day with ChatGPT and advanced technology, how could such an old-fashioned heist even take place, that too in broad daylight and so quickly? The internet has been stirring with questions, and in typical Gen-Z fashion, the younger generation has been quick to note the ridiculous and somewhat entertaining nature of this crime, some even comparing it to a cartoon or movie.
After an intense manhunt, the thieves were finally caught, with the police arresting and charging all 4 suspects. The absurdly unlikely nature of this crime will make the 2025 Louvre heist a truly astounding and memorable moment- both online and in history.
