Track and Field team shows out in their first meet

Track and Field team shows out in their first meet
The Morning Call

The Indoor Track season has just begun and there is so much to look forward to. Parkland once again is full of talented athletes who have already shown tremendous skill in their first invitational meet that occurred on Saturday, December 16.

There are five major events in Track, those being sprints, hurdles, distance, jumps, and throws. Parkland had some elite performances in four different categories. In the Boys 800 Meter Run, Tyler Rothrock came in 6th place with a time of 2:06 barely coming short of a time of 1:58 from Manchester Valley High School. For the Boys 55 Meter Hurdles, Andrew Beers crushed the competition coming in 1st place with a time of 8.22. Then in the Girls 55 Meter Dash, Naeema Salau sprinted her way into 3rd place with a time of 7.55. Finally Naeema Salau once again dominated with a time of 27.57 in the Girls 200 Meter Dash.

While these three athletes ran away with the competition, they were not the only ones to show out. In every event that Parkland competed in, at least one athlete from the school was top 40 in their event. Now these results may not seem that impressive at first glance, but these races were against 68 other schools in the state, which only adds to the extraordinary feat that they have accomplished in this first meet.

These amazing results should not be a shock to anyone as Parkland throughout the years has shown that this is the kind of team they are and will continue to be. While this is just the first invitational that does not count towards the teams overall record,it still is a sign that shows how far this amazing roster can go and how much they can accomplish.
