Unlike the famous quote from Miranda Priestly herself, that won’t be all- a beloved movie of the 2000s, The Devil Wears Prada, has recently announced the release of a sequel. This movie, released in 2006, was a major success, earning over 326 million dollars for the box office. Starring celebrated actresses Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, The Devil Wears Prada was one of the most famous movies of the decade and is still well known and loved today.
In The Devil Wears Prada, awkward and understated Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) finds herself earning a job as a personal assistant at Runway- a prestigious high fashion magazine. She is soon disillusioned to find herself not only extremely out of place, but under the orders of editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), who is impossible to please and extremely demanding. Andy finds herself falling into the high fashion world and transforming into a “Runway girl” in order to fit in with her new job and the demands of her impossible boss, while still trying to maintain her friendships and relationships from her old life. The movie follows Andy’s journey through her new job and the sacrifices she must make to enter this exciting new world.
After years of high anticipation, The Devil Wears Prada 2 was first announced in July 2024. The official announcement of the film and release date happened in stages, with an official teaser trailer being released on November 12, 2025. This teaser showed Miranda Priestly’s diamond-studded red heels walking through the Runway office and into an elevator, joined by Andy Sachs a moment before the elevator shuts. Fans of The Devil Wears Prada have jumped with excitement at the trailer, noticing key elements from the first movie such as “The Book”, as well as subtle changes in their favorite characters after years of the first film’s release.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to release on May 1, 2026. Theaters will be filled with both eager fans of the original movie as well as fans of this incredibly famous cast as their stardom has continued to grow over the years. The time in between has left fans wondering how the world of Runway magazine has changed- and if Miranda Priestly has retained her status as the Devil.
