“I realized all my favorite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning to them” Says Olivia Rodrigo to Variety, confirming that her new album is full of “sad love songs.” Rodrigo’s third album has been highly anticipated after the release of her 2023 album, Guts. Fans were looking for every hint and easter egg in Rodrigo’s moves, until ,in late March, a wall in LA was painted purple with her famous OR logo. More walls in other parts of the world like Paris and London. The wall changed from purple to pink with the word “love” written on it, and fans confirmed that the album was going to be pink and love themed. On April 2nd, 2026 the wall read “You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love”, along with an announcement instagram post.
“You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love” is set to be released on June 12, 2026 with 13 brand new songs. The album is ,as Rodrigo said, going to be full of sad love songs about her current relationship. The album name surprised fans because Rodrigo’s past two albums follow a four-letter title rule. Fans suspected it would be called “Love” or “Luck”. Rodrigo also placed pink heart shaped locks on bridges in major cities that read “April” on the side of them, hinting at the album announcement. According to Variety, Rodrigo said “It was a creative challenge to write from a joyful place.” “When you’re experiencing that you’re connected to someone, or feel really good, you’re not in your head thinking about bittersweet poems!”
Rodrigo also announced the release date and the name of the first single from the album, along with one audio snippet. Drop Dead is set to release on April 17, 2026. Fans say that the snippet sounds nothing like her original sound, and it sounds more upbeat and “pop” than most of her regular music is. She also added possible lyrics in the snippet videos, and they were “I hope you never finish that beer”, and “It’s female intuition”
With Olivia Rodrigo’s previous success on her albums, this album for sure could be the album of the summer! Millions of people are eagerly waiting for its release and cannot wait until June 12!
