Valve, the publisher of the widely popular video game marketplace Steam has announced the Steam Machine, the Steam Frame, and the Steam controller. These will accompany their existing gaming hardware (which I have reviewed), the Steam Deck.
This was announced on November 12th, 2025 to the excitement of gamers worldwide, as the Steam Deck was first launched back in February of 2022. The announcement came with a 6-minute demonstration of all three products.
The Steam Machine was the most prominent as it claimed to be a PC that effectively acted like a gaming console like an Xbox or Playstation but with all of the  customization and freedom of a computer. According to Valve, the Steam Machine will be about six times more powerful than the existing Steam Deck and it will be able to run your Steam library seamlessly.
Despite this power, the Steam Machine is a small cube, with people on websites like Reddit dubbing it the “GabeCube” due to the fact that it resembles Nintendo’s 2001 console the Game Cube and that Valve’s CEO is named Gabe Newell.
The Steam Machine has attracted some controversy as it Valve has announced that it will be priced like a PC and not like a game console. Considering that middle range PCs are priced around $800-$1000, while for comparison a Playstation 5 is only priced at around $500 (this will depend on the retailer and model), this may be discouraging for some consumers. But with the ROG Xbox Ally X console costing around $1000, this may become the new standard.
Like any home console, the Steam Machine operates with a controller. Leading to Valve also announcing the Steam Controller, a controller specifically built for Valve’s hardware that can also work with other devices like a laptop.
The controller features magnetic thumbsticks, rumble for increased immersion, and “Grip sense” that will enable gyro (motion controls) with touch. Much like the Steam Deck, the controller also features trackpads in order to better play games intended to be played with a mouse and keyboard, all inputs may also be modified by the user.
The last piece of hardware that Valve announced is the Steam Frame. This is a wireless VR (virtual reality) headset that also comes with controllers made for VR games. The Steam Controller can also be easily used on the Steam Frame. The Steam Frame is also a PC, allowing for one to download or stream games directly in the headset.
All pieces of hardware are set to release in early 2026, with many suspecting a March 2026 release.
